CoQ10 and Pre-eclampsia

Studies show that Co Q10 supplementation (Coenzyme Q10) reduces the risk of preeclampsia, previously known as toxemia of pregnancy. This condition typically occurs after week 20 of pregnancy, with symptoms including:

  • Swelling (edema)
  • High blood pressure
  • Protein in the urine
  • Elevated uric acid levels in the blood (hyperuricemia) in some cases.

This placebo-controlled study included 235 women at increased risk of preeclampsia; 118 received 200 mg of Co Q10 daily, while 117 received a placebo. Researchers concluded that Co Q10 supplementation reduces the risk of developing preeclampsia in women at higher risk for this condition.
