A new study highlights the link between chronic tinnitus and vitamin B12 deficiency.
So-called true tinnitus is a hearing-related “phantom sound” that is likely triggered by some form of stimulus in the cochlea or brainstem.
In this randomized study, researchers tested two different groups with chronic tinnitus. One group received 2500 mcg of vitamin B12 over six weeks, while the other group was given a placebo. Tests showed that the group receiving vitamin B12 demonstrated significant improvements in the so-called *mean tinnitus severity index score*. The researchers conclude: there is a link between vitamin B12 deficiency and tinnitus.
